Glasstown Brewing Co: Review

Located in the Millville, Glasstown Brewing Co is a small brewery that can be found at the Millville Municipal Airport complex. I have been wanting to go there for a while, so when I knew I would be in the area I put it on my agenda.

I didn’t realize how small  the brewery would be until I got there! Their indoor capacity is maxed at 37 people. Having said that, the interior is quite spacious with lots of tables and plenty of bar space. They also have a great outdoor area with picnic tables, so during nice weather it’s the perfect place to sit, relax, and drink beer.

Like most craft breweries, Glasstown Brewing Co started with home brewing. Owner Paul Simmons home brewed for years, sharing his love of beer with family and friends before starting his own brewery in 2013. The name of the history derives from the history of Millville, which was once the glass making center for the country. One of the things that’s so unique about the brewery is that it’s located at the Millville Airport, specifically within the Army Airfield Historic District.  According to their website, “The Millville Army Airfield played an integral part in WWII where pilots were trained to fly the infamous P-47 Thunderbolt. The Millville Army Airfield was also the first of its kind in WWII.” Where else can you drink a beer and see a historic airplane?

On to the beer…

The brewery had a lot on tap I wanted to try, so I had a flight (ironic since I’m at an airport, hardy har har) which included 4 beers. If you wanted to try more (or less), they do offer sample size glasses.

Beers I tried:
– Nightcap Belgian Blonde 8.7% ABV
– Lunch Pale Ale 5% ABV
– Glasstown Founders Ale 6.9% ABV
– Big Breakfast (Coffee Maple Stout) 7.2%ABV

Although all 4 beers were great, the Nighcap may be one of the best beers I’ve ever had. It was so smooth! Also, the Big Breakfast was one of the better coffee stouts I’ve had, although I didn’t really taste the beer only the coffee. I could easily drink it with breakfast!

If you can’t make it to the brewery (even though I strongly recommend you do), Glasstown Brewing Co’s beers can be found at plenty of bars in the South Jersey area (see: website).

I personally feel like Glasstown Brewing Company is helpful in bringing people to Millville to experience it’s history, and I hope to see that area continue to grow.
