Gaslight Brewery and Restaurant: Review

Located in Downtown South Orange, the Gaslight Brewery and Restaurant is the perfect place to grab a handcrafted brew and a warm meal to eat.

Founded in 1998, the Gaslight Brewery and Restaurant is a family owned brew pub that prides themselves in making handcrafted Ales and Lagers using traditional brewing techniques and the finest ingredients.

They have an extensive beer list ranging from brown ales, IPAs, stouts, pilsners, Belgian style, Lagers and Kolsch. There is something for every beer aficionado.

We went towards the end of the holiday season in 2016 so we tried a flight including some of their season beers. Here is what we tried:
– Mosaic Wet Hop E.S.B; 6.3% ABV A Strong, bitter but Fruity beer
– Bulldog Blonde; 4.9% ABV An American Blonde Ale with a soft, lightly malty palate, some fruitiness, and a pleasant hop bouquet
– Jack-O-Lantern Ale; a Pumpkin / Yam Beer (also my favorite of the four) Perfect for Fall
– Satan Claws; 9.2% ABV, Their Winter Beer. An Old Ale in the British style brewed with Belgian Pale, chocolate & caramel and German Munich & wheat malt

Along with their handcrafted beers, the restaurant makes all their food from scratch on  their own premises. That also includes all desserts and breads.

They have an extensive menu with everything from pizza, burgers, sandwiches, pasta, salads, and homemade soups. Speaking of soup, the Gaslight Brewery makes a Gaslight Beer Cheese Soup if you’re looking for extra beer.

Some of the most interesting items on their menu include the The Ante-Gator Burger (Antelope, Alligator, Ribeye & Pork are ground together & formed into a patty), the
“Freuben” (Fresh fish filet is breaded & deep-fried, styled like a Reuben), and their “Dy-No-Mite Chicken Wings” available as Spicy Buffalo, Garlic & Dill, Smokey BBQ, Global Thermonuclear War made with their own special Plutonium hot chili and BB(Basil Butter).

I ended up getting the Grilled Tuna Sandwich which is a 8oz. grilled tuna steak served on a Chipotle Brioche Bread with guacamole, aioli sauce, lettuce, tomato, spicy waffle fries & homemade pickle. SO Good. I ended up taking half of it home.

Not only is Gaslight Brewery and Restaurant located in a great area, but it’s also easily accessible by public transportation (just around the corner from NJ Transit South Orange Station). If you’re in the area I highly recommend it for a great meal and amazing beers.
