DiBartolo Bakery: Baking Goods in South Jersey for Almost 50 Years

New Jersey has plenty of bakeries, but not all of them can be DiBartolo Bakery. Located in downtown Collingswood, this family owned bakery has been around for nearly 50 years!

DiBartolo Bakery was started in 1969 by Benjamin DiBartolo, who at 58 years old decided to persue his dream of having his own family business along with his wife Nina and two sons. After he passed away his eldest son Alfred took over the business in 1974, and eventually moved the bakery from it’s original location in Pennsauken to it’s current located on Haddon Ave in Collingswood.

Now a third generation is working at DiBartolo Bakery, including Al Jr., who I had the pleasure of meeting and gave me a tour of his famous bakery. You may recognize Al Jr. from TV, since he most recently won “Halloween Wars” on Food Network. Al has also competed on other shows including Season 4 of TLC’s The Next Great Baker.

Despite being originally reluctant to join the family business,  Al Jr. gave in to his calling. Al brings his own style to the bakery, and creates some amazing things! He does not get shocked by requests, he is up for any challenge.

Al continuously gets customers coming to the shop that come to meet him and take his picture. But trust me, the fame has not gotten to his head. If anything the fame has helped the family business and gives them opportunities to give back to the community. They also contribute to Ronald McDonald House, and they work with Icing Smiles which makes dream cakes to sick kids all over New Jersey.

What makes their bakery stand out over the hundreds of bakeries in New Jersey is their service and reputation. There is a lot of bakery competition in the area from chains, grocery stores, home bakers etc, and yet their customers constantly come back to them for repeat business to celebrate their most special occasions. You should see their beautiful wedding cakes! DiBartolo takes pride in their product and welcomes future opportunities.

One of the things I got to witness while I was there was Al’s decorating skills. He is a master decorator who decorated this cake in under 3 minutes. Amazing!
