Diner Round Up: The Penn Queen Diner in Pennsauken

IMG_2351

While visiting friends in South Jersey, I got a chance to visit the Penn Queen Diner located in Pennsauken on Route 130.

This diner, which has been open for over 50 years, hosts a very impressive case of homemade desserts, pastries and bread. When you enter the diner you are greeted by this display, which only makes you want to contemplate getting dessert the entire time you’re there. Note: This picture is just a small portion of everything they had on display to purchase.

IMG_2347When we arrived I was HUNGRY so I was looking for something on the menu that came with soup. They have A LOT on their menu so it made it difficult to make a decision. In the end, I went to something I can always rely on: a panini. This time I decided to splurge on my somewhat diet and get a chicken tender panini which you can find on the “specialty sandwiches” section of their menu.

It came with a soup! I decided to get an onion soup, which was very good.

Then my panini came! It was sooooo good. I love paninis, and making it a chicken tender sandwich with cheese…it hits the spot. The panini was pretty stacked, so the tooth picks definitely helped keep it together. The french fries were really crispy and good too!

Notice anything interesting about this particular sandwich? Yeah, the bread is upside down. I’m not really sure why, it was obviously still good, but it was an interesting choice.

In the end I ended up taking half of my panini home since it was super filling, and did not leave any room for dessert.

Route 130 is packed with diners, and this is another great diner to add to the list.
