Bar Americana in Downtown Cranford: Review
I’m always looking for great restaurants and bars in New Jersey, so I checked out Bar Americana a hip gastropub located in downtown Cranford. They recently changed ownership, and are shaking it up with a new menu and new atmosphere.
The restaurant is located next to the train station, so it’s perfect for commuters to grab a drink and bite after a long day of work. Bar Americana has a fantastic happy hour, as well as fun weekday specials. Be sure to follow them on social media for updated deals and events!
The interior of the restaurant is hip and modern. I especially loved the look of their bar. Bar Americana has a great beer and wine list, as well as their own signature cocktails and martinis.
Additionally they also have a downstairs area (perfect for events and private parties) and an outdoor section perfect for warmer weather.
We started our meal with an appetizer, specifically their Brussels and Chorizo. This savory dish is perfect for sharing. The sautéed brussels sprouts with chorizo, and caramelized onions really hit the spot.
Bar Americana offers tacos, which you can purchase individually. I really enjoyed their marinated chicken tacos, filled with pinto beans, salsa, cilantro & queso fresco.
The restaurant has an impressive list of burgers (turkey, lamb, veggie etc), but I couldn’t take my eyes off of the “Mac & Cheese Burger”…which is exactly what is sounds like. My husband and I split this 8oz burger with a scoop of mac and cheese, with fantastic sweet potato fries on the side. SO GOOD! All of their beef burgers are a mix of ground sirloin, brisket & short rib. I highly recommend it.
Despite being full, we still managed to find room for dessert. Could you honestly turn down the Bananas Foster? WOW.
Their menu also offers thin crust pizza, sandwiches, salads, and entrees like Braised Short Ribs, Seafood, and their Chatham Fish and Chips. There is plenty to choose from, so you don’t need to worry about bringing or being a picky eater.
Overall, I enjoyed by time at Bar Americana and plan to come back next time I’m in town.
