My Tour of Jersey Artisan Distillery

photo 4 (2)

Yesterday was a very long day, sitting in the car trying to find things to do. Luckily I have been in contact with Jersey Artisan Distillery, the first distillery to open in NJ after prohibition.

My husband and I got a private tour with Krista Haley, who started the distillery with her partner Brent Braue. Brent and Krista do everything themselves 24/7 at JAD. They are proof(pun?) of working hard, playing hard to create a new business. On the tour we learned how they came to existence (a very interesting story for anyone who ever wanted to follow their dreams) and a little bit how they create their rum.photo 1 (2)

Their Busted Barrel Silver Rum is now stores, bars and restaurants all over New Jersey. Both the Busted Barrel Silver and Busted Barrel Dark were awarded Silver Medals at the New York World Wine & Spirits Competition. They make their silver rum from molasses made in Louisiana, and distill it through their custom copper stills and carbon filter.

And yes, at the end of the tour we got to taste the rum. And yes…we bought a bottle. And no…we’re not sharing. Get your own! We had the rum straight, and damn was it smooth!

They are working on vodka, gin, bourbon and whiskey….coming soon!

By then end of the Summer they should be renovating their warehouse space to include a tasting room which will be modeled after a Prohibition speakeasy. So yes, I will be going back if anyone wants to join me.

Diner Round Up – Colonial Diner in East Brunswick

photo 3

I recently got the chance to go to Colonial Diner, which is located on Route 18 in East Brunswick (right near the famous Magnifico’s ice cream).

I’ve been to this diner many times, although I hadn’t been in a while, and it never disappoints. If you have been to the Americana Diner or the Skylark diner you know what to expect because they are owned by the same person. Since I already reviewed the Skylark diner, I didn’t want to get the same thing I usually do…so I tried something new: the blackened chicken quesadilla. I’m glad I got that, because that might be my new “regular” item. It was SO good.

photo 1

My husband got something that might interest more of you NJ readers….the hangover burger (he was not hungover though). It’s pork roll, egg and cheese on a burger. Needless to say, he was happy.

photo 2

The diner has a small menu, and it’s pricey (it feels like more of a restaurant than diner) but nonetheless the food is VERY good. The staff is always very friendly and professional too. Unlike Skylark, they do serve breakfast all day and their breakfast is super good.

We left very full…but we had to get ice cream at Magnifico’s’.

photo 4

I definitely recommend it if you’re passing through the area!

Food Truck Festival Comes to South Jersey for First Time

The Sea Isle Food Fest is coming this September! Get excited!

For additional information on this event be sure to like it on Facebook, follow on Twitter @SeaIsleCityFood and add it your event calendar so you don’t forget!

Remember, I have a list of all the NJ Food Trucks as well as other Food Trucks Events on the website 24/7!

Official Press Release:

Food trucks are coming to the shore! South Jersey is going to host its first ever food truck festival. The Sea Isle City Food Truck Festival will take place from Sept. 26 to Sept. 28, on the grounds of Kix McNutley’s, 63rd and Landis Ave. The festival has already announced a half dozen food trucks with more to come.

The confirmed food trucks so far include Sum Pig, El Lechon De Negron, Surf and Turf, Pura Vida Dogs, Zinna’s Bistro, and On a Roll Street Food.

“The selection and quality of the food from some of the food truck vendors is among the best in the area,” said Sea Isle City Food Truck Festival organizer Denis Brown. “We have trucks that have been recognized in Philadelphia and North Jersey, plus some great local favorites.”

The Sea Isle City Food Truck Festival will bring food trucks, crafters, live music, and family fun together. It fits in perfectly to Sea Isle City’s “Shoulder Season,” working its way in between such events like the Fall Family Festival, Irish Weekend, Italian Festival, Harborfest, and Octoberfest.

The Sea Isle City Food Truck Festival will open with a Friday night (Sept. 26) preview. Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 27-28) will see the festival fully open. The preview night will feature some of the food trucks and crafters opening.

“Fall is such a great time at the Jersey Shore,” Brown said. “Local events like this one are family friendly and fun. We wanted to create an event that was a little different from everything else at the shore and still be the kind of event anyone can enjoy.”

The festival will be free to the public to attend. More information can be found at www.seaislecityfood.com.

Boot Camp Comes to Parsippany

Official Press Release:

Parsippany Adventure Boot Camp for Women will start June 30

This isn’t your father’s boot camp, but just like the real thing you can expect to arrive early. Camp starts at 5:30 AM! The one-hour per day camp runs for four weeks and women can choose the recommended five days a week Monday-Friday program or a three-day per week program. The camp is operated by Jessica Kucinski and Tracy Treible, Certified Personal Trainers and Adventure Boot Camp instructors. (Jessica leads the Montville location, and Tracy leads the Parsippany location.)

Kucinski says, “Women will choose our boot camp because they want a jump start and fast results.” Many women don’t know how to get started on a program or what types of exercises will achieve desired results. The Parsippany Adventure Boot Camp offers that jump start to your fitness plan in a safe, supportive, fun environment. Even as a certified personal trainer and lifelong fitness enthusiast, Jessica knows that getting back into shape is tough, and finding something you actually WANT to do can be even tougher.  Boot camp is the right way to get back into healthy habits, and see results, safely and quickly.  Women will see improvements in strength, endurance, appearance, as well as better relaxation, which are all important factors in helping to cope with a busy life.

Like “real” boot camp, Adventure Boot Camp instills a discipline that will carry over into other areas of life. Jessica wants everyone to know that she and Tracy are coaches, not drill sergeants. You will never be shouted at or asked to do something that could injure you.  The camp includes a variety of exercises, walking or jogging, weight training, obstacle courses, hiking, and more. Benefits include a 3-5% reduction in body fat, 5-12 pounds weight loss, 1-3 inch reduction in the midsection and a 100% increase in confidence.

The camp is geared to offer the benefits of having a personal trainer in an environment of camaraderie with others who share similar goals. Each woman will work at her own level, and all levels of fitness are welcome.

Adventure Boot Camp was originated in Orange County, CA by Dr. John Spencer Ellis, a well-known fitness expert and author with a list of credentials a yard long. There are many imitators of this program, so don’t be fooled. Make sure your boot camp is an authorized Adventure Boot Camp program. The difference is in your results!

Information is available at www.ParsippanyBootCamp.com or by calling (908) 220-1967.

Diner Round Up – Manalapan Diner

The other day I went to the Manalapan Diner in Manalapan, located right on Route 9. Manalapan is my hometown, I’ve been to this diner plenty of times, but I went this week so I could actually “review” it. I guess I hadn’t been there in a while (I don’t live in M-pan anymore) because their decor was different, as was their menu. The diner was looking super fancy!

I decided to order my favorite kind of sandwich, a panini. They had a few panini options, and I was very happy to learn it came with a soup (yay! I was hungry…). I decided on getting a chicken panini which came with avocado and pepper jack cheese. Mmm Mmmm. So good!

photo(1)

I’ve never had a bad experience at this diner. The food has always been delicious and the people who work there are very friendly. Although it’s become a little fancier, it still has that classic diner feel. I definitely recommend it!
