A Lunch Date* at Costa Verde in South Amboy

Earlier this week, I was disappointed by an outing at a Portuguese restaurant who will not be named so to make up for it I went to a restaurant which has an excellent reputation: Costa Verde.photo(1)

Costa Verde is a place I pass every day, hear great things about, and I had never been there before. Things needed to change!

My friend and I decided to go there on our way back from a very eventful shopping trip, and we were very hungry. I think I talked about bread the entire way to the restaurant, so I was very happy when the bread was delivered to the table immediately.

We both decided to get paella, which we easily could have shared. I had enough left over for two more meals. The paella was delicious! Lobster, scallops, shrimp, mussels, clams…and plenty of it! SO good! The prices were so reasonable too, I definitely got my moneys worth of food.

If you love Portuguese food, I highly recommend it. I’m so glad I finally went there! It’s a very nice restaurant perfect for any occasion.

*This wasn’t a date date.

People I would take here: Friends, business clients, date night. They have a big bar if you’re just looking for a night out!

Frequency of return: Whenever! I’m a local and I pass it EVERY DAY on my way home from work.

Diner Round Up – Peterpank Diner

The Peterpank Diner  is located on Route 9 North in South Amboy, a perfect place to stop before you end up on the GSP (Garden State Parkway if you don’t know the lingo).photo 1(8)

The last time I went to that particular diner was my 17 Birthday. I don’t want to age myself, but that was quite  a while ago so I felt it was time to re-visit.

photo 2(6)

The diner itself is pretty small, but it’s a popular spot! They even have the small jukeboxes on the tables on one side of the diner, which was one of my favorite things as a kid. Overall the diner has a very “classic diner” feel to it.  They also did something there I haven’t seen at a diner…they sell lotto tickets!

Their menu is pretty extensive and there’s some fun things to find in the men as you go through it. This was one of my favorites:

photo 3(5)

What happened to the chicken galindo?

It was hard to make a decision since everything looked good on the menu, but I decided on the chicken gyro since it was a really good deal for my buck. I was very happy with my choice!

photo 4(3)

All and all, the experience at the diner was very pleasant and I plan to go back very soon. I got to try my friend’s banana chocolate chip pancakes, so I may have to go back ASAP to get those for myself.

NJ Comics Light Up the Stage on NBC’s Last Comic Standing

Last night I was all pumped up to see the return of NBC’s Last Comic Standing, one of my favorite reality competition shows. The show has helped discover some of my favorite comics.

What was more exciting was seeing an article posted earlier in the week and recognizing some of the comics listed!

It’s Vinnie!

Back in the day, I used to work at a local comedy club in New Brunswick, The Stress Factory, and my boss was none other than Vinnie Brand who competed last night. Although Vinnie was only seen in the very beginning of the episode, it was still really cool seeing him on screen and then later hanging out in the green room with the other comics.

Another comics I recognized were Erin Jackson and Mark Normand, both comics who performed at the club while I was working there.

The comic who stood out to me, and who I’ll be rooting for in the next step of the competition is Dana Eagle, a comic originally from East Brunswick, which is the next town over from me. Dana had a great set and I’m hoping she’ll go far.

Be sure to watch this season of Last Comic Standing this season and cheer on Dana!

Follow Dana Eagle on Twitter @DanaEagleTweets

Follow Vinnie Brand on Twitter @Vinnie_Brand and the Stress Factory @StressFactoryCC (They get BIG comics)
